General Information
Le François 97240, Martinique
One of the largest cities of Martinique with about 20 000 dwellers, Le François is on the Atlantic coast. It features beautiful traditional architecture, and historic monuments and it is the hometown of traditional dance practices such as Haute Taille or Quadrille and traditional defense dance like Danmyé or Ladja. Thanks to its privileged coastal location and fertile soil, it allows for diverse economic productions in agriculture and fishery. It is home to the Habitation Clément distillery that produces Rhum Clément, one of the most refined rums in the world. Its diverse landscape and chain of 7 islets ensure an ecosystem that caters to inland and sea activities such as its emblematic and unique traditional sailing sport “yole”.

Airport: Aéroport Aimé Césaire, Le Lamentin, Martinique.
Airport transfer: Airport taxis are the best way to transfer from the airport to your lodging in Le François (and back) or any other local destination. Expect a cost range of €30-€50.

Car rental: Many car rental companies can be found at the airport. You may also rent a car at a discounted price through our accommodation partners.

Change: There is a change station at the airport. There are multiple banks in town where currency change transactions can be done.
Driving in Martinique: Need for an International Driving License to drive in Martinique. Participants who want to rent a car and drive need to inquire beforehand with the French Consulate of their place of residence or possibly with their local DMV. Car rental companies may offer automatic transmission cars. However, most cars are equipped with a manual shift stick.

Public transportation: there is public transportation from the inner town of Le François to the site of the conference + Public transportation from Le François to and from Fort-de-France. Public transportation is through buses + private and shared taxis are available. See your conference bag for information.

Visa: Martinique is a French Collectivité territoriale of France and a European Outermost Region. Because Martinique is not physically attached to the European continent, it is not part of the geographic European Schengen area. Those holding Schengen visas to travel to continental Europe must request a specific mention to said visas for validity for Martinique. Please, check the status of your country vis-à-vis France to determine whether you need a visa or not to enter Martinique. Consult with the French Embassy or Consulate at your home location.

ACCOMMODATION
Rather than on large hotel facilities, the hospitality industry of Martinique is based more on systems such as hotel’aparts, bungalows, villas and vacation rentals (gîte rural) located in rural or seaside areas and ran by independent owners. This does not mean that there are no hotels in Martinique. This means that villas and vacation rentals (gîte rural) are the predominant type of lodging in the town of le François where our conference takes place as well as in neighboring towns.
We have negotiated for you rate discounts with three established hospitality facilities that all are within a 30-mn drive to the site of the conference: Le Village de la Pointe, Villa Clémence and Villa La Ressource, and Plein Soleil. We also provide alternatives should you prefer other types of accommodation.
Please know that transportation to and from the conference site will be organized only for residents at Le Village de la Pointe, Villa Clémence and Villa La Ressource, and Plein Soleil.

Villa Clémence is an apartment hotel complex (aparthotel) that offers 7 fully equipped rooms for 2 or 3 guests. Transportation
Public transportation is not regular. Cars can be rented from the airport. However, if you so wish the Villa Clémence and La Ressource team can arrange transportation service as well. Let the team know in advance if you would like them to make arrangements for transportation on your behalf.
The Villa Clémence and La Ressource team uses two vehicle makes: DACIA STEPWAY and DUSTER. The Villa Clémence and La Ressource team can also arrange for Airport transfer to the villas. Price is available on quotation and on demand. If you need transfer from the airport, let them know in advance so that they organize this service for you.

Cancellations made between 8 and 30 days prior to the scheduled arrival date will be subjected to a 30% charge of the total cost.
Cancellations made between 30 and 60 days of the scheduled arrival date will be subjected to a 15% charge of the total cost of your stay.
