Shifting the Geography of Reason XVII

Dignity, Power and Place in the Caribbean

Saint Croix, USVI - April 1-4 (Cancelled due to COVID-19)

Call for Proposals

Born out of a cesspool of de-powering ideas and actions of placement, displacement and replacement which jeopardized the very notion, practice and reality of dignity for the people maintained under the yoke of human, economic and social tyranny, the Caribbean we know today is the ideal space through which to critically engage the idea and praxis of power and place. The Caribbean is thus an epistemic locus from which the meaning of dignity, power and place can be thought about with great salience for a contemporary world where constant tensions among different groups are induced by neoliberal and neocolonial forms of domination. In its sustained efforts to proffer new and transformative ideas and practices that transcend admitted and colonial thinking, the Caribbean Philosophical Association will center its 17h annual conference around the themes of dignity, power and place.

How do dignity, power and place as notions and lived experiences be mobilized to contribute to justice, equity, and a resolutely humanized human existence?

The Caribbean Philosophical Association invites proposals related to the theme of dignity, power and place as well as contributions that enact the aim of “Shifting the Geography of Reason.”
